Large openings or the removal of internal walls reduce the inherent stability of a building, and in many cases extensive hidden structures are needed. Careful thought must be applied at the earliest stages of the project in order to realise the aspirations of the design at an affordable cost

Each loft conversion is unique, and even similar houses may have differing designs to suit the owners’ requirements. Our designs are tailored to each situation, taking into account the original structure and optimising economy and ease of construction. Typically requiring the design of new floor joist, steel purlins / ridge beams and dormer windows.

When a property has suffered from structural damage due to settlement, the existing foundations may require underpinning. Depending on the nature of the existing foundation failure, mass concrete, reinforced concrete offset ground beams and piled foundations may be specified.

Quite often properties are built on sloping sites and require some form of retaining structures. We have the ability to design and detail walls using traditional masonry, reinforced concrete or gabion baskets.

When it comes to new build or self-build, it’s never too early too early to consult a structural engineer, early dialogue is crucial to ensure you receive the most appropriate advice. Just getting up to damp proof course can cost up to 30% of the project cost, so it is vital that you have accurate and buildable plans from the outset.
